If you have heard about the glass half full or empty, its often looked at it from a point of view of having an Optimist and Pessimist attitude.
Continuing on the topic of glass full, the quote by Dr. King encourages us to more forward, have a Positive attitude. Regardless of what has happened going backward or standing still is the way – learn from experiences and be Resilient.
Meditation is one way we can cultivate the quality of Resilience and connect with the power we have inside of us to get up and do what we can.
If you are struggling, worried or just need a small push. Here is a practice to help you cultivate a quality of being:
- Believing in yourself
- Resilient – Ready to bounce back!
REFLECT: Find time to sit in silence. Relax and start with first focusing on breathing. Next once you are settled, notice what thoughts come to mind. Does your mind then wander and can you spot any negative thoughts or patterns?
RESPOND: Note your feelings, sensations without getting hooked into the experience. If & when any thoughts arise and you feel being carried away, return back to the breath.
With each breath, remind yourself of the quote and commit to take action, to get started, to take the first or next step!
